Hey there, history enthusiasts and proud members of the Paeroa community! We're thrilled to announce an upcoming event that will celebrate and preserve our local heritage. Get ready for Fizzing with History: Preserving Paeroa's Past, brought to you by The Treasury Research Centre and Archive.
Mark your calendars because Fizzing with History: Preserving Paeroa's Past is happening at the Paeroa Information Centre on 21st and 22nd July 2023. This exciting two-day event is all about celebrating our shared history and capturing captivating stories and records that deserve to be remembered for generations to come.
The Treasury supports local heritage alongside other organisations like the Paeroa Museum and Historical Maritime Museum and Park. Our specialty is collecting, housing, and preserving paper records of the past – photos, maps, diaries, letters – and oral stories. We'd love to see what Paeroa locals have stored at home, their office or community organisation.
Inspired by the beloved Antiques Roadshow, Fizzing with History: Preserving Paeroa's Past puts a unique twist on assessing the historical value of records. Our team will be on hand to give you insights into whether your treasures are worth preserving at home or by donating to our esteemed archive. It's not about the dollar value, but rather the historical significance that makes these items invaluable. Book your appointment and receive a complimentary digitised copy of a whānau | family photo or paper treasure. Preserve those cherished memories in a modern format, ensuring they can be cherished for years to come.
But that's not all! We want to hear your personal stories and experiences that make Paeroa truly special. We're calling on you to share your remarkable whānau| family histories, intriguing local legends, and cherished memories. We'd love to help capture the essence of Paeroa's past through the stories of its people.
Imagine having your story featured in our upcoming True Tales of Paeroa book, a collection of captivating memories of the past. Whether you have a tale that tugs at the heartstrings or a fascinating account that leaves us in awe, we want to hear it. We're also offering you the opportunity to record your recollections through audio visual filming.
Stop by, we're looking forward to seeing you.
Bookings for a free digitised copy of a whānau | family treasure are highly recommended to avoid disappointment
