Taonga Kaitiaki Collections Archivists
WE'RE RECRUITING

We have two exciting opportunities to join our heritage team.

The Coromandel Heritage Trust (TCHT) provides services for our communities to research, celebrate and connect to our past and each other. This includes providing the purpose-built Research Centre and Archive – The Treasury - where we care for, and share documentary heritage taonga from the Coromandel Peninsula – Te Tara o te Ika a Māui. We’re a small organisation with ambitious goals – to not only catalogue and conserve documentary heritage, but make our rich heritage relevant, engaging and accessible to diverse audiences

We are looking fortwo Taonga Kaitiaki Collection Archivists to help us with this mahi. One part-time and one full-time, although we have some flexibility of hours for the right people. Due to funding limitations, the roles at this stage are fixed term for one year, however we intend extending the term of the positions should funding be sourced.

As a small organisation, your role will be broad, including all things documentary heritage - acquisitions, cataloguing, conservation and preservation, curation, public access, loans, research, education and outreach.

These are more than back-office roles; you will be working closely with our volunteers, researchers, kura | schools, other heritage organisations and the various audiences of the many small communities we serve. Your enthusiasm for sharing our taonga and helping people find out about their past will be obvious.

You might be a new graduate or a more experienced archive collections professional, but ideally you will have:

·      knowledge and experience in collection management, preferably in relation to documentary heritage

·      strong research skills

·      an understanding of the need to seek guidance on tikanga Māori

·      excellent written and communication skills

·      advanced computer literacy

·      awareness, sound judgement and sensitivity

·      ability to balance the application of professional standards with pragmatic realities

·      experience in working in a heritage education setting.

If you have a flexible "can do" attitude, are capable of multi-tasking, and comfortable communicating and working with a wide range of people, then we would love to hear from you.

Applications close Friday 17th February at 5pm. Don’t delay in getting your application in as we’ll be interviewing as we go and may make a decision prior to the closing date for the right people.

"Nothing happens unless first we dream"

This quote was the opening statement of The Coromandel Heritage Trust’s successful 2013 application to Lottery Environment & Heritage which was the final enabler of the Archive build. Daring to dream is what has created the Archive we see today at The Treasury.
